Federated Identity Management and Role Based Access Controls RBAC

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

MEDNET has seen an influx in questions about our Federated Identity Management implementation, and Role Based Access Controls, or RBAC. If you are interested, we are planning a webinar to discuss these topics!

In a nutshell, the Federated Model with RBAC works like this: when you build a Health Information Exchange (locally, statewide, nationally) you need one security model with credentialed users. These users have different roles, and based upon their roles in the HIE (or organization), the users will have different access controls (ie, a physician sees different data than a billing clerk, etc.). MEDNET has expertise in HIE building and RBAC with the Federated Identity Management solution, so check out our webinar or give us a call at 612-435-7603 for more info…we are here to help!

MEDNET NHIN Gateway installation with VMWare

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

MEDNET is implementing an HIE, or Health Information Exchange, with MEDNET NHIN Gateways, for NHIN connectivity and services. We are using VMWare http://www.vmware.com/ and absolutely love the fact that we can ship our software on something as small as a key fob! (a tiny keychain, similar to USB flash drive). Thanks to VMWare for making such a great product, as our installs are efficient and our customers can access NHIN connectivity and services ‘in a jiffy’!

Liberty Alliance SIG-HIM Breakfast at HIMSS

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Pete Palmer (Wells Fargo) and I (John Fraser) just wrapped up the Liberty Breakfast at the HIMSS show in Chicago, from 6:30 to 8:30 (actually ended about 9:30).  We had about 20 people come, which given the 6:30 start was very encouraging.  All the speakers showed up and gave great talks, and overall the meeting was very successful.  We introduced the “NewOrg” concept and the April 20th announcement of the new name and charter. Lots of discussion around identity management and personal health records, and some of the attendees stayed late to do some Q and A.  Clearly a lot of interest in the whole security and identity management space, for both patients and providers. Pete and I were very impressed that everything went off without a hitch, great food, the projection system etc. The only downside was the early morning hour, and perhaps an extra sign or two would have been helpful to get a few more people in, but otherwise a great success!
